Mount Desert Island

Venture beyond Bar Harbor to explore the villages, harbors, mountains, and quieter corners of Mount Desert Island.

A view from atop a mountain looking out over a large lake

There is much more to Mount Desert Island than downtown Bar Harbor and the best-known parts of Acadia National Park. Exploring farther around the island leads to working harbors, quieter villages, mountain and water views, and a different pace from the busier east side.

A drive around the island can easily become part of the day's adventure, with opportunities to explore places such as Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Somes Sound, and the surrounding coast along the way. Our location makes it easy to get out and explore away from the crowds.
